How’s it going, identifying that false self? Easy in some ways, sneaky in others?
To live authentically, we take different action to strengthen our true selves.
That’s the transformation.
It’s when our insight meets courage, and our choices come from our true selves. Then our choices become more consistent, reflecting who we are rather than who we were trained and encouraged to be – or who we fell into being.
I fell into being the chubby red-haired girl who ate whatever was put before her. I did as I was told. How about you?
When I realized I had a choice, it helped me identify what I wanted. It’s not that it’s effortless, but it takes less effort with practice. Stress, cravings, even gaining a few pounds may happen now and again, but it’s easier to know what to do when you are working with the grounded strength rather than out of fear of failure/rejection/whatever is driving your need to comfort and soothe yourself. That helps you make adjustments faster. From our authentic selves, our decisions are rooted in our values, not the comfort of old habits.
For emotional eaters, this might mean:
- Saying no to food-as-comfort because you know who you are.
- Choosing habits that align with your health and wellbeing.
- Letting go of outside approval or what others expect of you.
Try this: Identify one area where the false self has been in control. What is one bold, authentic step to try this week? Journaling when you want extra food? Going for a walk? Having a chat –or that hard conversation you’ve been avoiding?
The more you practice, the more natural it becomes. Living authentically isn’t a destination—it’s a rhythm, a daily choice to be YOU, and the foundation for lasting weight loss.
