Bridging the Intention Gap: Becoming the Person Who Actually Follows Through

Video

3. Who Do You Need to Be?

Be specific. Are there qualities you need to develop? Habits to change? Limiting beliefs to eliminate?

What adjustments would help you better self-regulate, handle setbacks, and become more resilient? How can you actively grow in these areas?

Who embodies or exhibits the traits or responses you want to acquire? Can you clearly envision yourself responding in those ways?

We all imagine being the wise one,  the calming presence during difficult situations. We envision responding perfectly. Does it ever actually happen that way?

WHY? Because we haven’t put in the effort to become that person—yet.

Who do you need to be? What concrete steps can you take to become that person?

Following through with your intentions is the soul of resilience, particularly amidst struggles. A resilient person doesn’t give up after initial failure. They embrace challenges, keep their word, do the job when it’s difficult, and find solutions.  They are creative, diligent, and persistent. They make tough choices amidst all manner of temptation.  They become who they need to be.

Here’s the beautiful thing about this transformation: once you’ve reached that goal, you’ve developed tools that serve you for life. The skills don’t deplete like a gift card running out. Instead, each challenge strengthens your capacity, expanding your toolkit of resources. Rather than drain you; they auto-reload your balance of strengths and skills.

Action Item:  Identify one specific trait of the person you need to become to achieve your goal. Choose one daily practice to help you develop that trait.

Becoming is a process – celebrate each step moving you closer to being the person who naturally bridges that intention gap.
