Break the Cycle of Failed Fresh Starts: A 13-Year Success Story of Lasting Change

Thank you for your comments on the last series – you really loved the Repeat Starters.  KNOW: You’re not alone in this struggle.

My shift began in 2012 after years of failed attempts to change my habits and lifestyle. I’d succeed temporarily, but life happened, and – well, I’d started over so many, many times. Sound familiar?

I was stuck.  I knew what to do, but I couldn’t be consistent. I’d lost faith in myself,  hope that it could ever be different.  The shame felt overwhelming.  Not that I could give up, mind you, so yet again, I decided on a fresh start.

EVERY success story is built on fresh starts.

After skirting success for decades, I realized I couldn’t do it on my own.  Clearly.

I hired a coach for accountability and to identify what kept me stuck.  I’d tried friends, groups, or apps, but nothing stuck.  With professional help, I established the changes to my habits, choices, and lifestyle.  Nearly 13 years later, changes are steady, and it still requires holding to those choices, new habits, and lifestyle.

One piece seems crucial:  Remembering who we are.  Not the self hidden behind masks and coping mechanisms, but our authentic selves.  When we remember our true selves, we make different, healthier, and more beneficial choices.

Three Real-Life Examples:

Feeling Near Burnout:  Instead of pushing through exhaustion, honor your need for rest and set boundaries that prevent burnout before it starts.

Emotional Eating: It’s not about the food, it’s about what you’re looking for in that food.  We look for what’s driving the behavior bus and address THAT, nourishing both body and mind.

Habit Change: Build small, sustainable daily practices aligned with your values instead of attempting dramatic overnight transformations that inevitably fail.

What one thing can you do to begin your own shift?
