Emotional Eating: Something’s Missing

Hello friends,
It’s that moment when we’re staring longingly into the refrigerator or pantry BELIEVING that something in there will soothe and comfort whatever is bothering us.
Like hunger, that emotional eating is a signal that something is missing.  When we feel physical hunger, we know our fuel storage is depleted.  When we feel emotional hunger, our comfort storage is depleted.
It’s a signal like our morning alarm clock, and too often we’re hitting the snooze button.  Just make that sound stop so I can catch nine more minutes of sleep.  Just make this feeling, ache, desire, boredom, anger, frustration, grief, sadness, guilt, or shame stop.
Something is missing.
Find that.  Refill that storage space.  Do what you need to do to truly comfort that feeling rather than simply hitting the snooze with the easiest tool at hand.
Fill THAT need.
The result is lasting comfort — with some affirming feelings about ourselves as a bonus!
